concept, in which flexibility, space economics and innovation
are combined in a unique manner.

Flexibility
The modules can alternatively be

placed in subracks, which are installed
in 19 " - or ETSI racks or |
 |
mounted in closed
housings, which were
developed for the outdoor deployment |

| Thus the same modules can be
used both in Headend and Hub's as well as in fiber nodes.
By this flexibility also the necessary training of the
service staff is simplified apart from the project planning.
With the BaalMega product family applications can
be realized with a small housing installed at the wall
of a cellar, a residential building, without using a
19" cabinet. |

Space economics
The BaalMega components are based on highly integrated,
modern transmission technique. Due to this high integration
a housing concept had to be found, which offers a fine granularity
and makes in addition an economical space use possible. The
result is the basic module of the BaalMega product family,
which represents with its dimensions of 40 * 250 * 100 mm3
(B * H * T), i.e. volume = 1 litre, an ultimate
solution for all requirements:

The small depth in combination with the
subrack, makes it possible to use 300 mm deep 19"-
racks instead of the usual 600 mm - 800 mm deep racks.
Thus one can place instead of one 600 mm deep 19"-rack
now 2 pieces of 300 mm deep racks back to back. With the
same surface area it results altogether in a double
front surface, which provides a substantially clearer
overview and better handling. |

More complex devices of the BaalMega product
family are installed in double or three-fold modules.
Thus also these devices point out all advantages of the
BaalMega product family. |

Innovation
All modules of the BaalMega product family use state of
the art technology:

The use of microprocessors with flash
EPROMS makes possible on the one hand flexible
adjustments of the standard parameters to customer's requests and
on the other hand future updates for product care. |
 |
All parameters of the modules are supply
voltage-fail safe put down into non volatile memories. |
 |
All modules can be steered and controlled
via a RS-485 BUS. A network adapter
converts this interface into the higher value SNMP interface.
Thus the connection is possible to an Ehernet network.
Further with the network adapter a Web server is implemented,
which makes a control of the attached modules over standard
Internet Browser possible. |

Mechanical setters such as potentiometers
are consequently substituted by electronic
setters. |
 |
All devices are optimized regarding lowest
possible current consumption and energy dissipation and
therefor provide a high reliability. |
 |
To the achievement of a greatest possible
availability, redundant power supplies are installed
as standard configuration. All modules provide implemented
hot plug in technology and
individual modules can be added or replaced, without
disturbing the operation of
the other modules. |
 |
All RF modules are realized in well screened
module housings, which ensure a maximum of security
regarding EMC. |
