BKtel, a pioneer and leading supplier in FTTH RF video overlay solutions unveils a new system for direct transmission of satellite TV content in all-fiber networks. The new technology compiled under the name Fiber.xSAT boosts the capacity of RF overlay solutions to a complete digital TV experience with thousands of SD and HD channels.
BKtel is completing its product portfolio for customers with medium-size networks who were always hesitating to choose RF video overlay due to the massive CATV headend costs. Fiber.xSAT avoids these costs. Headend signals are directly generated from downlink signals of TV satellites and are transparently transmitted to the subscriber. Especially DTH providers can now take advantage of FTTH networks and can penetrate regions where they were not able to start business due to dish antenna restrictions.
Two system versions are right now available (Q1, 2010): A low cost Ku band system, which can transmit the complete content of one Ku band satellite consisting of four satellite feeds, and a generic system, which can process two L-band feeds (950-2150MHz) of independent TV satellites. This second solution is scalable to up 16 satellite feeds. First successful customer trials in Middle East and Australia have proven the maturity of the technology.
BKtel again demonstrates its technological expertise in optical transmission technologies as already shown with CATV and SAT overlay systems used in many FTTH networks in Europe and Asia. The FTTH RF overlay technology guarantees a superior and consistent television experience in picture and sound being a key factor in creating the true broadband connected home.
